Week of October 14 to October 21, 2026 · Orbytt Editorial
Ramp’s October 2026 AI Index says 55.9% of businesses on its platform paid for AI. The data covers September 2026.
Ramp Economics Lab published the update on October 14, 2026. Adoption rose 0.62 points in September. It rose 0.40 points in August. Anthropic reached 43.8% of Ramp businesses and OpenAI reached 40.6%.
The author says growth in new AI customers has slowed. The author suggests the market may be near the top of an S-curve. The author expects future growth to come from more intense use.
Token spend showed almost no growth in August and September, while token volumes rose. The author links this mainly to falling prices. Ramp says the top 1% of firms spent $9,568 per employee per month in September.
The scope is narrow. The data covers Ramp customers, not all US businesses. The top 1% group is small, so its numbers can swing. The contract findings come from the author’s conversations, not Ramp data.
The takeawayMost Ramp customers already pay for AI. The question moves from whether to buy it to who uses it well.
