One thing that slowed down my VA portfolio was not a lack of effort. It was the fear that I was building it incorrectly.
I started it weeks ago, but I became so focused on choosing the right words, projects, and layout that I eventually stopped making progress.
Today, I returned to it with a different goal: not to make it perfect, but to make the next section better than it was before.
Building a portfolio while still learning can feel uncomfortable. You are presenting your abilities while also discovering how much more there is to improve.
But I am learning that a portfolio does not need to prove that I know everything. It should honestly show what I can do now, how I think, and how willing I am to keep improving.
For other VAs building their first portfolio, what part has been the most difficult for you?

When I look at portfolios, I put more weight on the contents within the portfolio page. It’s proof of work so I can gauge competency. Another important piece is ‘proof of value’, like 20% ROAS, 20% increase organic search. And social proof, that is where blog posts, thought leadership articles, activity feed shares, community engagement, etc.
